Mentee Opportunity // Info Pack | Organise a time with the school(s) to go in and talk to all the students. This is where we present the program to the prospective mentees in an intimate environment. Giving us the opportunity to provide clarity on the year ahead, the behavioural expectations that are required for participation, incredible opportunities such becoming an Imagination Ambassadors and most importantly we get the chance to build an individual connection and relationship with the kids through mentoring for the next year and beyond. The program doesn’t roll out, the system doesn’t change and the community of people we’re working with doesn’t rise if we can’t get the kids in the room. Everything you do pre, during and post these conversations will be remembered. – Punctual attendance at every interaction (Tutor Squads and Theatre of Education Days) – Take risks and leaning into uncomfortable with us. – Being brave to ask the questions – Doing the work not just at AIME but at school, at home and in the wider community.AIME is the easy part and you can let this be … | Guide | guide
School email template | School email template 2021 Dear __________________ I wanted to put a new programming partner on your radar. AIME is a mentoring program that has had a lot of impact in Australia and they are now establishing programs in the United States. They’ve been working with York College for a number of years and are seeing increased school attendance rates and high school completion rates for mentees as a result of their programming. AIME’s model seeks to build a bridge between high school and college students. We are currently recruiting and training AIME Mentor leaders at City College who will begin mentoring young people across 10+ schools in our area come September. City College AIME trained mentors will lead local programs for schools supported by AIME staff at no cost to schools. Program delivery How mentoring is delivered will vary in different locations as AIME believes that programs must align to school and University context and local calendar rhythms. Below is a list of options to encourage students in your school to step outside of their comfort zone, imagine what’s possible and get to work on making their vision a reality. Program Days IMAGI-NATION {Factory) (6 days per year; 3 hours per day) These are delivered by the AIME IMAGI-NATION Mentors. Program days are ideally held on local university campuses. Students from various schools come together with Mentors and engage in exploring the 18 values of AIME through tried and tested activities, including Failure Time and GAIME of Life. The goal is two-fold: Increase mentee confidence and self belief and help them see what’s possible when we flip the script and give them the stage. Allow students to come together on university campuses which exposes them to seeing educational opportunities beyond high school in a different light. Tutor Squads – In person and/or virtual. 1 hour per week of mentoring delivered by AIME’ s local IMAGI-NATION Mentors at your school or online. Tutor Squads increase the academic outcomes of mentees and build solid mentor:mentee relationships on a consistent basis. AIME also offers free programming to Teachers via their free IMAGI-NATION {University} programs. Teacher-led delivery IMAGI-NATION {University} In February 2021 AIME launched IMAGI-NATION {University} to share their mentoring knowledge and tools with the world. Open and free for all, your teachers and staff can enroll in the IMAGI-NATION {Teacher} stream and explore your own ways of bringing imagination and mentoring to life every day in school. AIME has found that the training and support lessons allow school staff to “cross the line” between being a teacher and being a Mentor. What staff will get: Teacher lessons – 15, 30 and 60-minute lessons accessed through AIME’s IMAGI-NATION {University} and delivered by teachers in class. Ability to implement IMAGI-NA TION {Factory) Days at your school Accessed through IMAGI-NATION {University}, teachers will gain resources so that they can set up programming days throughout the year. I’m excited about the potential of this program especially given the positive feedback we’re receiving from colleagues at York College. I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have about this program. Let me know if you’re interested in talking more about the potential for your school to be involved. Looking forward to hearing your feedback and catching up with you soon. Take … | Document, Guide | document guide

Year 9 Interactive Program – Letters | Background It is incredibly empowering for students to tell their story and give them a vehicle to have that story heard. In the movie Freedom Writers, the students study the Holocaust and then focus in on one of the narratives; the Diary of Anne Frank. After becoming inspired by the story of Miep Gies, the woman who housed Anne Frank, the students want to let her know how inspiring her life has been to them. As a project each student drafts their diary entries into a letter. All the letters are bundled together and sent to Miep. So moved was Miep upon receiving them that she agreed to the request to go and speak to the students at Long Beach. Following this same methodology AIME has also been inspired by the concept and built two sessions into both the Year 9 & 10 Programs where students have a chance to go through this journey too. Outcomes Mentees develop empathy Mentees learn about the actions people demonstrate to become role models Mentees learn that words can move people to actions Mentees develop an undertanding that you can be strong and resilient in the face of …
Year 9 – Interactive Program – Respect | Background The primary focus of the respect session is for kids to be able to comprehend, understand the concepts of respect and empathy. Simple Definitions: Respect = treating others well. Empathy = to see something from another person’s perspective. Presenters should ensure they have watched ‘Freedom Writers’ before running this session to ensure that they have the context and understanding required to make the videos and activities work. Outcomes A thank-you note written from the mentee, taken back to school and delivered to a teacher to thank them for their efforts. Mentees having both a theoretical and practical experience with understanding that if you can walk a mile in another person’s shoes, then you can appreciate their world. By having this ability mentees will suddenly be able to move beyond judging people to understanding them. Specifically, focused in the short term. on their relationships with … | Guide | guide
Year 9 Interactive Program – Session 2 – Identity | Background The objective of the Identity session is to establish for the kids a new psychological framework whereby Indigenous = Success. The simple take out is that to be Indigenous is to hold a position of strength, not a position of weakness. This session has to be a safe space for the kid who talks 3 Aboriginal languages and for the kid who doesn’t know anything about their heritage. Outcomes Establish concretely that Indigenous = Success. Kids feel strongly that to be Indigenous is to hold a position of strength, not a position of … | Guide | guide
Getting to Know You – Year 9 Interactive Program | Background In the shortest, most efficient, and most productive amount of time we need to connect strangers with each other and spark an interest straight away. This session is mission critical for setting the tone, and conversations around the contract and expectations are very important for explaining the boundaries and expectations. It’s also important in this session to give the Mentees and Mentors space, so make sure they sit one-on-one. Often kids will want to sit near their mates. This will be your first test, help the Mentors out and tell the kids they’ve gotta split – a friend looking over the shoulder can often break down the whole process of trust building. The key for this one is to let the Mentors know to use every question as a starting point for the conversation – send them some of the questions in the brief so they can prepare. Outcomes – after 60mins: Initiate strong working relationship between Mentee and Mentor, which can be deepened as year progresses Establish AIME expectations for the year (100% attendance, no shame, try, be respectful, have fun) Mentees to sign and return AIME contract to the AIME presenter — demonstrating that they understand the AIME expectations and they will commit to achieving … | Guide | guide

Hope’s Diary | On the 6th of October 2020, after one of the most complex years in human history (with COVID-19 creating at least 68 million additional poverty years and 4.3 million years of life lost across 150 countries) we at AIME are launching a new University – to fast-track human development & growth to enable a whole ecosystem of change-makers to learn from each other and the collective knowledge we’ve amassed through the years to solve the greatest challenges of our times, and together build a fairer world – welcome to IMAGI-NATION {University}.
