Year 9 – Interactive Program – Respect

Background
The primary focus of the respect session is for kids to be able to comprehend, understand the concepts of respect and empathy.

Simple Definitions:
Respect = treating others well.
Empathy = to see something from another person’s perspective.
Presenters should ensure they have watched ‘Freedom Writers’ before running this session to ensure that they have the context and understanding required to make
the videos and activities work.

Outcomes
A thank-you note written from the mentee, taken back to school and delivered to a teacher to thank them for their efforts.
Mentees having both a theoretical and practical experience with understanding that if you can walk a mile in another person’s shoes, then you can appreciate their world. By having this ability mentees will suddenly be able to move beyond judging people to understanding them. Specifically, focused in the short term. on their relationships with teachers.
