Who are you?:

I am University Student from Gippsland and my dream is to become a Nurse Practitioner specialising in Indigenous and Paediatric care. What also makes me is my passion for community, I have been volunteering with the Lions clubs, Scouts and Royal Children Hospital Good Friday Appeal since I was 12 years old. To me there is always someone that needs our help.

What have you been doing at IMAGI-NATION {UNIVERSITY}?:

This year at Gippsland we have been focusing on setting up a virtual program for the students during the time of COVID. We have also been working setting up activities and instructions that will help future President’s at Gippsland.

How have you been doing it?:

Our aim with a virtual program is to have set activities that the mentors can set work through to the contact teachers and still be able to run the tutors online. In addition to the virtual program we have a intern who is also a citizen through Imagination University and we are running her project through the AIME program.

Why are you doing it?:

One of our biggest goals this year is to show the kids this is their future, ie. be what you want to be, not want someone wants you to be.

Main reason for this goal is I have seen first hand how a persons opinion about your future can undermine your confidence. When I was in high school I was told I was going to graduate, wasn’t going to get into university and wasn’t going to succeed in life. Today I have a Bachelor in Biomedical Science and working on my second, Bachelor of nursing because that’s what I wanted to do. I wanted to show those teachers that they may thought I wasn’t good enough but I knew I was.

Which Professor teaches your favourite IMAGI-NATION {UNIVERSITY} lesson and why?:

Professor Hope because to me, nothing is going to change unless you have that hope that will. I believe Professor Hope helps see the good even in the dark.

What lessons in organising change would you pass on to other students in your course?:

Be yourself. You chose to be apart of Imagination University because you wanted to see change, being yourself will help show that passion and passion is something you can inspire people with and pass on.
