8 to 15 November. All across Australia, people gathered to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We shared and learned from each other as we celebrated that “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists.” The first storytellers. The first footprints on this continent.

At AIME, during this very special time, we pay our respects to those who went before us, honouring their presence in who we are today. We recognise the peoples of the lands on which we stand. We look at who we are now and where we are today, drawing wisdom from the young ones rising up to lead us. And we look to the tomorrow we want, designing our future, building bridges between 65,000 years of heritage and the next 65,000 years.

This year we’ve had to keep our distance. That hasn’t stopped our Elders, young people and mentors standing up to share knowledge.

Like we always have.

Here’s a sampler ⇩ With thanks to the mentors of IMAGI-NATION {TV}. “Always Was, Always Will Be”
